What is a SeeReal 3D monitor?
SeeReal 3D monitors are autostereoscopic displays, i.e. the observer can see a 3D image content spatially with real depth, without additional accessories like glasses or similar.
What is the meaning of 3D stereo?
Because of the distance between eyes our left and right eye see two slightly different views. The human brain is generating a spatial image, which enables us to perceive spatial depth. Stereo 3D means, that like with natural viewing, two slightly different views of the same scene are generated for the left and right eye which produces a perception of depth for the observer.
In which sizes are SeeReal 3D monitors available?
Currently 20" (Cn, 1600x1200) and 18,1" (C-i / C-s, 1280x1024) monitors are available. Basically every size can be realized if there is a demand.
Is it possible for more than one person to see stereo at the same time?
Basically yes, because the stereoscopic image is repeated periodically every 13 cm from center axis (Cn). However, our monitors are constructed for single users and should be used only in that way.
Is it possible to move in front of a SeeReal 3D monitor without loosing 3D impression?
Yes. C-i and C-s 3D monitors are including a tracking system, which is used to determine the observer's position in relation to the monitor. The 3D image then is aligned to this position automatically, so the observer can move laterally within a range of ca. +/- 25 degrees in front of the 3D monitor without loosing the 3D impression. The distance to the monitor can't be varried yet and should be ca. 65 cm to the center of the screen.
Also with Cn displays it is possible to move some cm laterally and in distance.
Does the tracking also work for people wearing glasses?
Yes.
Is the tracking also working in dark rooms?
In that case it is recommended to use a C-s display with infrared (spot) tracking. This version also works reliable in rooms with less lighting. The observer just has to wear a small reflector as a reference point on his forehead.
Can the eyes be strained excessively by seeing stereoscopically?
No, the high brightness of the display enables tiredness-free viewing. The TFT technology of the display is flickerfree. However, the user should do regular breaks as it is recommended for working with monitors.
Which additional hardware is required?
None, all necessary components are integrated into the 3D monitor. Please make sure that the graphics card has a digital output. The type of graphics card may depend on the used software. (Please look at Software & Applications for details.)
What can be visualized with SeeReal 3D monitor?
Stereoscopic pictures, videos, 3D applications and 3D games can be visualized. Basically everything what can be described three dimensional can be visualized ( e.g. 3D formats like DXF, MAX, CATIA, IGES, ... ) as well as if two slightly different views of a scene (stereo pictures, stereo videos) are available. Only requirement is that left and right view are vertically interlaced. This can be achieved by the software or by the graphics driver. Please see also Areas of Use.
Are SeeReal 3D monitors enabled for real time visualization?
Yes. The speed of visualization doesn't depend on the display but on the speed of the computer (CPU, graphics card).
Can I use my software / graphics card with a SeeReal 3D monitor?
In the meantime thanks to common driver solutions lots of popular 3D applications can be run on SeeReal 3D monitors (current status here). Ideally no line of code has to be changed, e.g. when using OpenInventor-based applications or other applications performing OpenGL Active Stereo, together with NVIDIA Quadro / FX cards. But in case it has to changed, SeeReal Technologies offers technical support.
Additionally SeeReal Technologies is supporting leading manufacturers of graphics cards to create universal 3D Stereo driver solutions, to enhance the list of supported graphics cards.
